ANDY BELL
May 28, 1997

Around 12:30 am, he arrived very unceremoniously at the Bike Stop to quench his thirst.

Sporting his just colored, blazing blonde hair, he perched himself on a barstool in the second floor sports bar, accompanied by a couple of local lads including the man who had done Andy's hair that day.  Then, after a beer and a few shots of this-n-that, he got the ten cent tour of the Bike Stop, before returning to his seat to chat amiably with the patrons, pose for pictures, and sign autographs.

Erasure is just embarking on their most recent tour in support of their new release, "Cowboy".  Consisting of primarily Andy Bell on lead vocals, Vince Clarke provides all the electronic music and acoustic guitar, "erasure" has four accomplished back-up vocalists, topped off with a flashy stage show.

They hit the stage clad in latex cowboy outfits and Andy wears a solid chrome steel cowboy hat.  Vince, who never utters a word on stage, just goes about setting up his computerized orchestrations throughout the show and basically lounges on a stool until he has to make the next change.

Erasure is enormously popular in the UK and Europe, can still pack 'em in and sell well here in The States.  They played in Washington, DC prior to their Philly show before moving on to New York City.

And now some pictures...

COOKIN' CHEAP

Larry Blye and Labin Johnson, the stars of "Cookin' Cheap" television's longest running cooking show, made an appearance at The Bike Stop while shooting a segment in Philadelphia.

As a longtime favorite viewing item of pre-cocktail customers , the boys felt a visit to Philly would not have been complete without Stop-ing by.  Mobbed by adoring fans, they laughed and joked with patrons, signed autographs, and posed for pictures while everyone snacked on a recipe pulled straight from the "Cookin' Cheap" archives - Philadelphia cream cheese and olives on Ritz crackers.

Larry & Labin were proud.
